A few days ago, Regulation ESPR 2024/1781/EU on establishing a framework for setting requirements for eco-friendly design for sustainable technical products was published in the Official Journal of the EU. This regulation will eventually replace the current Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC. Starting from July 18, 2026, products must be mandatorily aligned with ESPR requirements. Among other things, the regulation introduces a digital product passport, which will provide key information on the environmental aspects of the product, including its environmental footprint, recyclability, reliability, and material and functional properties. Since two years is not a long time in product development, we urge all economic operators to promptly begin activities to comply with this regulation, which also includes CE marking and registration.
